The Great Outdoors
There are many wonderful outdoor activities for you to enjoy while staying at Friendly Pines Cabins. You can picnic, hike, boat and ski or fish at Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park. Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park is a part of the Oklahoma State Parks system; however, it is relatively unknown due to its Southeastern location. Broken Bow Lake has some of the cleanest, clearest water of any of the Oklahoma Lakes or fresh water lakes in the United States. It is considered a deep-water lake since it is situated in the Kiamichi Mountains, and the water is very blue and so clear that swimmers can actually see their toes down to 6 feet or deeper. There are 180 miles of pine-studded shoreline, and 14,220 acres of lake. The lake stretches 22 miles back into the Ouachita mountains where its unusual beauty and scenic appeal beckons all nature enthusiasts. The mountain terrain is densely forested and there are many species of birds native to the area for birdwatchers to enjoy.
Broken Bow Lake
Beavers Bend State Park is located 6 miles north of Broken Bow on Hwy 259A, and is home to Oklahoma's only year round trout stream. Located along the shores of Broken Bow Lake and the Mountain Fork River, its towering timbers, crystal clear waters and mountainous terrain form what is affectionately referred to as Oklahoma's "Little Smokies." The fishing at both Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park feature Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Sunfish, Rainbow Trout, and Brown Trout Fishing.
Other activities include horseback riding, riding a children's steam engine train, swimming, hiking, playing golf, biking, or simply relaxing on the porch - doing nothing.
Mountain Fork River
Beavers Bend State Park offers an interpretive nature center, and hiking trails in a deep forest setting that allows you access to thousands of acres of the Ouachita National Forest and the Three Rivers Wildlife Management Area. There you will find great hiking trails, nature photography, bird watching, deer and turkey hunting, mountain biking, horseback riding and ATV 4-Wheeler riding.
